The apellido Manning is one of the most recognized in the history of the National Football League (NFL). This due to the innumerable successes that the brothers achieved Peyton y Eli Manning with the Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos y New York Giants, respectively. However, this family’s legacy in the league began thanks to their father: Archie Manning.

Who is Archie Manning?

Archie Manning was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the 1971 Draft. With the second overall pick, the Louisianans gave him a chance to prove himself in the NFL. Same that he did not waste and even corresponded to the league with his greatest pride: his family.

Archie played most of his career with the Black and Gold, from 1971 to 1982. Later he became part of the Houston Oilers and the Minnesota Vikings, having his most outstanding years with the New Orleans Saints.

Manning looked like a good quarterback, finishing his career with 125 touchdown passes, 23,911 passing yards and being appointed twice to the Pro Bowl. Similarly, he was named player of the year by UPI and Sporting News in 1978.

Behind the Archie’s retirement in 1984the Manning surname returned to the NFL thanks to Peyton and eventually Eli. They both became legends of the league with their respective teams and managed to raise four Super Bowls between both, even being named MVP’s. Arch Manninggrandson of Archie (son of Cooper) aims to continue with the family legacy.
