Jeddah: Umrah permits have been issued to those from within Saudi Arabia through Itamarna and Tawakkalna applications. Those who book through book apps have started getting permits from Sunday. With just days left for the start of the new Umrah season, Umrah permits have started being reissued.

Permits have been issued from July 30 (1st of Muharram). Umrah timings are arranged in 12 batches of two hours each from 12 midnight. Umrah permits are to be obtained through the Tawakkalna and Itamarna apps. A permit is required only to perform Umrah and pray at Rawda Sharif in Madinah. A permit is not required for praying in the Haram Mosques of Makkah and Madinah, saying Salam at the Prophet’s Tomb in Madinah, or other acts of worship.

As a part of Hajj, Umrah has been temporarily banned from June 23. The temporary ban on issuance of Umrah permits was a part of creating conditions for Hajj pilgrims to perform their duties smoothly and comfortably.

Foreigners are also allowed to perform Umrah from 1st of Muharram. Umrah activities should be performed by obtaining a permit through the Itamarna and Tawakalna apps. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah said that going for Umrah without a permit is a crime.

Applications for granting visas to pilgrims coming from outside Saudi Arabia were accepted from July 14. The ministry expects to attract around one crore pilgrims in the new Umrah season.
