Since last year, the metaverse is very trendy in the world of Tech. Popularized by Mark Zuckerberg, who has made it a priority for his company, it is an Internet incarnate that anyone can access through a virtual reality headset.
The adaptations of this idea are numerous with concrete applications in the fields of sport, work, or even e-commerce. The video game sector is also in turmoil, and titles such as Roblox or Fortnite are considered by some to be metaverse.
What economic model for the metaverse?
The Globant company has just commissioned a very interesting survey which makes it possible to better understand the expectations of the public on this subject. To do this, 1000 American gamers were interviewed.
Overall, 52% of respondents to this survey believe that the metaverse will change the video game industry. Asked regarding the company that most embodies this concept today, 73% answered Meta, 27% cited Epic Games (the publisher of Fortnite), 21% mentioned Robox, and 15% thought of The Sandbox.
This is a key issue and the answer is quite clear: 46% of respondents do not want to see in the metaverse, while 35% accept this idea, and 25% are undecided. However, the total rises to 44% acceptance, if the metaverse is accessible for free. There is no doubt that industry players will scrutinize these answers closely before deciding on the economic model to adopt.
Quoted by our colleagues from VentureBeatNicolas Avila, Technical Director for North America at Globant, explains: Through this survey, we find that although the development of metaverses is still in its infancy, American gamers already see this technology as capable of expanding the realm of possibilities in the realm of gaming. ».
