First detection of influenza virus this year in Gwangju

The first influenza virus detection this year was confirmed in Gwangju.
The Gwangju Metropolitan City Health and Environment Research Institute, together with the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is conducting the ‘Influenza and Respiratory Virus Infection Pathogen Monitoring Project’ targeting samples of respiratory patients that occur in the region every week. Through this, it was announced on the 22nd that influenza virus type A (H3N2) was detected in two out of 41 samples collected in the second week of July.
The influenza virus, which was prevalent in the winter season before the Corona 19 epidemic, was confirmed two years and six months following it was confirmed in the Gwangju area at the end of January 2020. .
Influenza virus is a pathogen that causes flu, and it is easily transmitted through a patient’s cough or runny nose.
Kim Seon-hee, head of the New Infectious Diseases Division at the Institute for Health and Environment, said, “It is necessary to closely monitor the future trend of influenza outbreaks by referring to the reports of influenza outbreaks in the southern hemisphere such as Australia for the first time in two years. We ask that you take extra caution as preventive management through personal hygiene management is important.”
