NCAA | Outclassed, Gregory Jackson commits to South Carolina

Nearly ten days following announcing his disengagement from North Carolina college, the 17-year-old high school student Gregory Jackson announced which was an open secret in the NCAA sphere in recent days: he joined South Carolina, his native state, neighboring that of the Tar Heels.

Ranked #1 in the Best High School Students of the Class of 2023 by 247sports, GG Jackson becomes the most important recruit in the history of the program. He will wear the Gamecocks jersey from next season since he has upgraded to join the 2022 promotion a year in advance, and thus densifies a 2023 Draft which already looks very solid.

At UNC, he mightn’t upgrade because the roster is sold out for the 2022/23 season, and that was one of the reasons behind his decision not to play for the Tar Heels following all.

If his arrival will not fundamentally change the face of the program next season, it is still a historic recruitment for South Carolina, given his status as the best player in his promotion. After several featureless seasons, the Gamecocks will regain some glamor in the coming months: Gregory Jackson will be a star on the NCAA scene, and above all a future headliner for the 2023 Draft.
