Tour de France 2022: New feat by Wout van Aert in Rocamadour, Vingegaard assured of final victory

Long the best provisional time, Ganna was dethroned by a masterful Wout van Aert at the stroke of 5 p.m. The green jersey therefore settled in the leader’s chair as Geraint Thomas, Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard began their effort.

The first three of the general classification immediately attacked van Aert’s best intermediate time. After regarding ten kilometers, the three men were standing in barely 9 seconds.

Tadej Pogacar then gave up ground as Vingegaard, van Aert and Thomas stayed very close with less than 5 seconds to separate them following 32 kilometers.

In the final, van Aert took advantage of Thomas’s slack to release the pressure a little while Vingegaard eased off in the final hectometres. The green jersey was thus able to savor, in tears, the 9th victory of his career on the Tour de France.

Overall, Vingegaard will complete this Tour de France with a 3:34 lead over Pogacar and 8:13 over Thomas. David Gaudu remains 4th whileAleksandr Vlasov invites itself to the Top 5 to get ahead Nairo Quintana, Romain Bardet et Louis Meintjes.

Sunday, the Tour de France will end with a last segment of 115.6 km in Paris for an arrival scheduled for the evening on the Champs Elysées. A stage on which Wout van Aert, winner on these roads last year, is eyeing.
