The Kansas City Chiefs safety, Tyrann Mathieu, will end up on the open market. This is reported by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
There’s still a possibility of Mathieu returning to the Chiefs, but the team has other priorities to take care of, adds Rapoport. The star safety is expected to be a hot player when he officially becomes a free agent later this month.
sea Spotter Kansas City has regarding $11.5 million in cap space this offseason. The Chiefs are also reportedly working on a contract extension for three-time All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill, which will likely make him one of the highest-paid wideouts in the league.
Mathieu has played 47 games for Kansas City over the past three seasons, netting 13 interceptions, including six in 2020 alone.
The 29-year-old made it to the Pro Bowl last season following scoring three picks and a touchdown.
