Lorenzo Cassini, president of the Italian League, warned of the difficulty of holding the Italian League on time due to the high temperature.
The season usually begins in Italy at the end of August or the beginning of September precisely because of the climate.
The new season of Calcio is set to kick off on August 13 with several matches pressed into the summer weeks in order to prepare for the November and December breaks for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Temperatures and the World Cup cause a crisis for the Italian League
Italy did not qualify for the World Cup, as it lost its chance following a sudden defeat once morest North Macedonia that knocked it out of the European play-off for the World Cup.
“It will be difficult to start the season on August 13, if the record-breaking temperatures continue, because it simply will not be safe for the players,” Cassini said on a visit to Udinese.
He concluded: “It will be a strange season because of the temporary suspension of the World Cup.”
Italy recorded 60 degrees Celsius in temperatures, which led to the outbreak of bush fires, while England recorded 40 degrees Celsius for the first time ever this week.
It is noteworthy that AC Milan was the Italian league champion last season with 86 points, two points behind runner-up Inter Milan.
