Emirates News Agency – Fires destroy 197,000 hectares of forests in Spain in 7 months

MADRID, 22 July / WAM / The first seven months of 2022 witnessed the destruction of more than 197,000 hectares of forests in Spain as a result of the fires that broke out in it, making the current year the worst in the country’s history in this regard.

And the official Spanish TV today quoted the European “Copernicus” network for Earth observation as saying that this area is actually more than it was in the previous record year as a whole 2012, when the fires destroyed the forests of an area of ​​189,376 hectares in Spain.

According to these figures, Spain is the country most affected by forest fires so far since the beginning of 2022 among the European countries covered by the Copernicus network, ahead of Romania with an area of ​​just under 150 thousand hectares, Portugal with regarding 46 thousand hectares and France with a little less than 40 thousand hectares. Croatia with regarding 31,000 and Italy with regarding 25,000 hectares.

According to the data, the fires that broke out in Spain due to a severe heat wave more than a week ago destroyed more than 110 thousand hectares.
