Indians are always fond of sports. Be it cricket, hockey, football, kabaddi, athletics, volleyball or any outdoor game, India has left its mark on all of them.
But when asked which is India’s favorite indoor game, there is only one answer, Chess. Chess is a very intelligent and patient game that is loved all over the world.
The origin of this game is India which is well supported all over the world. The game known as Chaturangam later evolved into the game of chess.
This year’s Chess Olympiad will be held in India. Chess Olympiad is coming to India for the first time since its inception.
India is hosting the 44th Chess Olympiad. The tournament will begin on July 28 and run until August 10. The Olympics will be held in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu.
187 teams are participating in the Olympics. This will be the biggest chess puzzle of the year. In the opening session, Indian ‘A’ team will compete as third seeds and Indian ‘B’ team will compete as 11th seeds.
With 187 teams registered, the tournament has the largest number of registered teams in the history of the tournament.
Every country can field a five-man team. But as hosts, India can field two or three teams in various categories.
Meanwhile, 162 entries were received in the women’s category. This is the biggest registration gain ever. Two teams will be fielded from India and for the first time from the women’s category.
World champion Magnus Carlsen will participate in the first Olympics in India.
