The men’s professional tennis (ATP) tour will be held in Korea for the first time in 26 years.

The ATP Tour announced on its website on the 22nd, “The Korea Open will be held from September 26 to October 2 at the Olympic Park in Seoul.

This year’s Korea Open, which will be held with the ATP 250 series, is the ATP Tour event held in Korea for the first time in 26 years since the KAL Cup Korea Open held from 1987 to 1996.

Challenger competitions, which have a lower rating than the Tour, have been held frequently in Korea since then, but the domestic attraction of the Tour competitions has not been held for over 25 years.

The reason why the ATP tour was held in Korea during the 2022 season is because the tournaments originally scheduled for China were canceled due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

The ATP Tour was scheduled for the Rolex Shanghai Masters, China Open, Chengdu Open and Zhuhai Championship in China in September and October of this year, but these events were all canceled.

Instead of these events being canceled, the ATP Tour decided to hold a total of six ATP 250 series events between September and October in Korea, the United States, Israel, Italy, and Spain.

However, all of these competitions are scheduled to take place only in 2022.

The week before the domestic ATP Tour event, the Hana Bank Korea Open, a women’s professional tennis (WTA) tour, was scheduled at the same place, giving tennis fans the opportunity to watch the world-class players in person for two weeks in a row.

The WTA Tour starts on September 19th, and the ATP Tour starts on September 26th. All venues are the Olympic Park tennis courts in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
