WASHINGTON, July 21, 2022 (Xinhua) Initial jobless claims in the United States rose last week to 251,000, hitting an eight-month high, indicating that the labor market may slow, the US Labor Department said Thursday.
In the week ending July 16, the number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits increased by 7,000 compared to the previous week’s unrevised level of 244,000, according to a report from the department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The latest figure, which beat the Dow Jones estimate of 240,000, marks the highest level since mid-November. /ts/
