Fact-checking: no, plugging your Macbook into your MacBook does not offer infinite autonomy

Who would have thought that one day it would be necessary to clarify a story of “infinite” charge? However, on TikTok in particular, videos of this kind are a hit and the rumor spreads tirelessly. The fault of Marques Brownlee, alias MKBHD, a videographer specializing in the mobile industry, who had fun plugging his MacBook into… his MacBook, and filming the charging icon which then activated on the laptop . And inevitably, the video quickly went around the world and was taken up multiple times by opportunists who saw it as a great opportunity to make views.

The reality is much less generous on the power consumption side since, as our IT specialist Raphaël Benteo quickly explains on our TikTok channel, there is no magic here. The MacBook simply detects that it’s plugged into power, because it technically is, and displays it accordingly. Nothing abnormal: the product only interprets exact information. But for all that, it will continue to lose energy in a completely classic way.

“At the time, it’s funny, but in reality, it’s useless”concludes our specialist in the matter following a long-term investigation.
