Tourists in swimwear Standing at the hotel buffet, at the reception or at the bar are nothing unusual on vacation. But also in inner cities, in churches, museums and on public transport, tourists are often out and regarding in bikinis, swimming trunks and bathing shoes – and many a male tourist does not feel obliged to cover his upper body.
Die Croatian city of Zadar is now faced with protests from residents, but also from many tourists regarding visitors in bathing suits. So the city has one for this summer official promotional brochure launched urging tourists not to wear inappropriate clothing when walking around the city center.
In fact, it says: “Although it is not officially forbidden in Zadar, we ask you to respect the local tradition and culture so that you don’t just wear swimwear when you are not on the beach, even if it is only for a short time. Thank you and we wish you a pleasant holiday in Zadar!“
This text is printed in Croatian and four foreign languages; the brochure will be distributed to visitors and posters will be put up around the city. Zadar follows the example of other cities such as Dubrovnik – but there are even fines for improperly dressed visitors in the city center. No penalties are planned in Zadar, at least not at the moment. However, the city administration might introduce such fines in the foreseeable future if the information campaign had no effect.
