The Congress of the Republic begins a new period this July 20, the day on which 294 legislators took office who will occupy a seat during the period 2022-2026 and were chosen during the legislative elections in March.
For the first time in history, the majority of the legislature will be composed of the center-leftsince the Historical Pact will have 49 members, while the Green Alliance, the commons and the parties of the U and the Liberal have expressed their support for the elected government of Gustavo Petro.
In the Senate, the Commons will have 5 seats, the Historic Pact 21, the ASI 4, the Green Alliance 8, the Liberal Party 14, the Acop 1, the U Party 10, the Anticorruption League 1, the Radical Change 11, the Conservative Party 15, the Democratic Center 13 and the Christians will have 4 members.
For its part, the Historical Pact will occupy 29 seats in the House of Representatives, the Commons 5, the Green Alliance 15, the Liberal Party 33, the New Liberalism 2, Others 21, the Anticorruption League 3, the U Party 15, the Radical Change 19, the Conservative Party 27, the Democratic Center 15 and the Mira Party 1.
Both in the Senate and in the Chamber a tilt to the left is reflected, while the participation of women in the Congress of the Republic increased from 20% to 29%.
