The General Directorate of Public Health of the Community of Madrid has confirmed a case of monkeypox in a 7 month old baby whose parents had been infected with the virus.
All three family members have received the vaccine and are in good health, even though the baby is being kept in isolation at home, the statement said.
A specific case
The Ministry of Health stressed that it was a specific case due to the coincidence of the infection in the parents of the baby and that the transmission occurred during their care.
To date, the Ministry of Health has detected 1,577 cases of monkeypox in Spain. It also this week began administering the monkeypox pre-exposure vaccine to people ages 18 to 45 who engage in high-risk sex and meet established clinical criteria.
