BURAIDA: Zakat, Tax and Customs sources said that only a limited amount of goods can be brought while traveling to Saudi Arabia. If the goods are for commercial purposes, no more than the limited quantity is allowed to be brought. If found to be more than the limit, tax will be levied. Penalties will also be imposed if proper procedures are not followed.
In response to the doubts, the authorities clarified that the customs officials at the respective airports and seaports will have the authority to determine the level of goods that can be imported by the individual.
Materials that are internationally prohibited, nationally prohibited, or subject to international treaties and local regulations are also not permitted. Counterfeit products, deceptive materials, and materials that infringe intellectual property rights are also prohibited.
Passengers bringing personal belongings must present the original receipt of the goods, their Arabic translation, passport, proof of residence (Iqama) and identification if requested by the officials.
Commercial importers have to complete normal procedures and present original bills of lading, certificate of manufacture of the goods from the concerned country and documents related to shipment.
Details of customs fees and procedures levied on imported goods are available on the website of the Zakat Tax and Customs Authority. https://zatca.gov.sa/en/RulesRegulations/Taxes/Pages/Integrated-Tarrifs.aspx.
