El Aissami reveals new details about the “criminal attack” on the gas pipeline in Aguasay

The minister revealed that in the next few hours they will be restoring the methane gas service.

The Oil Minister, Tareck El Aissami, offered new details regarding the explosion that occurred on Saturday in the PDVSA gas pipeline, near Aguasay in Monagas state, and reiterated that it was a “criminal attack.”

He pointed out that a “cambuche” was found regarding 150 meters from the area where the fire broke out and inside there were some flange screws that were removed from the gas pipeline, specifically from the valves, in order to cause the fire that led to in the explosion.

In a contact with Venezolana de Televisión, he reiterated that it was an “explosion caused by criminal minds, which caused this serious damage to the country’s gas system.” They also found cables that were stolen from the Venezuelan industry.

“We have obtained material that is already in custody and we are going to find those responsible who caused this attack to cause serious damage to our industry and especially to our people,” he threatened.

He pointed out that at 8:30 at night the deflagration occurred and that it caused flames of more than 100 meters high, as well as a large “expansive wave”.

«It was a provoked event, they are very complex systems in their design, construction and in their operational capacity, there was no warning signal to anticipate an operational failure. on the contrary, it had been working normally,” added the official.

He pointed out that following 48 hours they managed to control the flames, following applying the protocols. He appreciated the work of the firefighters who fought the flames.

He explained that the gas pipeline serves to carry methane gas that is used in industrial production in the country. He indicated that in the next few hours they will be restoring the service, once they complete the repair work on the affected sections.
