Toxic substances that were controversial at the time of the humidifier disinfectant disaster were detected in some of LG Household & Health Care’s baby wipes. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety recently issued an order to suspend or discard the product, but LG Household & Health Care is controversial because it ‘delayed notice’ to consumers.
The product in question is the baby wipes ‘Babyance Only 7 Essential 55 (Pink Fong Cap 70 Wipes)’ released in 2019 by LG Household & Health Care.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety issued an order to stop selling and discard regarding 8,000 of these products produced on November 8, last year.
This is because toxic substances such as methylisothiazolinone and ‘MIT’ and methylchloroisothiazolinone and ‘CMIT’ were detected.
When these substances come into contact with the human body, they cause skin irritation and allergies.
Companies that have received an order to announce product recall from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety are required to immediately notify consumers through their website and daily newspapers. .
Unfortunately, as a lot of public service advertisements from the Korea Consumer Agency were posted on the website, the notice of suspension of sales might not be seen on the first screen.
When the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety issued a correction order once more to show the notification message immediately following accessing the website, LG Household & Health Care opened a separate notification window ten days later.
In an apology, LG Household & Health Care said, “In order to protect consumers and minimize inconvenience to consumers, we will exchange all products for Baby Only 7 wipes, not limited to the serial number.”
