KNOWN MEMBERS OF THE FESPACO SELECTION COMMITTEE

Dakar, Jul 19 (APS) – The general delegation of the Pan-African Cinema and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (Fespaco) published on Tuesday the list of members of its committee responsible for selecting the films in competition for its next edition scheduled for February 25. as of March 4, 2023.

Mozambican producer Pedro Pimenta, Tunisian executive producer Lina Chabanne, Burkinabe teacher, director and scriptwriter Guy Désiré Yaméogo and Malagasy Laza Razanajatova, artistic director of the Festival court de Madagascar, are part of the committee, we learned from general delegate of Fespaco, Alex Moussa Sawadogo.

Burkinabe film critic Claire Diao, Beninese film programmer Farah Clémentine Dramani-Issoufou, Cameroonian film critic and programmer Enoka Julien Ayemba, and Kenyan director and screenwriter Hawa Essuman are also members of the committee, Mr. Sawadogo added. during a press conference given in Ouagadougou.

The people chosen constitute “a dynamic team of professionals” from the cinema and audiovisual sectors, he underlined during the conference relayed by the Fespaco website.

The general delegation took into account “the gender dimension”, which is why it chose four women and as many men, according to Alex Moussa Sawadogo.

The 28th edition of Fespaco, one of Africa’s biggest film festivals, has as its theme: ”African cinema and the culture of peace”.

”We know that our cinematographies shape attitudes, behaviors and opinions. This is the reason why the culture of peace, which is a permanent process, must be reflected in cinematographic creations,” commented Burkinabè Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Valérie Kaboré, on RTB, the national television of Burkina Faso.

Filmmakers and directors wishing to take part in the next edition of Fespaco can register since last March, and registrations will continue until October 31, recalls the general delegation.

The official competition includes eight categories, including ”feature fiction”, ”short fiction”, ”feature documentary”, ”school films”, ”Fespaco series and shorts”, the ”animated film” and the ”films of Burkina Faso”.

The out-of-competition is made up of four categories.
