British officials announced on Tuesday that the government has purchased 100,000 new doses of monkeypox virus vaccine.
The American news agency Associated Press (AP) reported that the acquisition of new doses comes following the registration, until Tuesday, of more than 2,130 cases across the country, the majority of them in the capital, London.
In this context, the UK Health Security Agency has confirmed that “In the majority of cases, patients are gay or bisexual men (…) the infection is mainly transmitted by close contact between people in interconnected sexual networks”.
Remember that the British authorities have extended vaccination once morest Monkeypox in June.
This vaccination campaign not only targeted health professionals but also homosexuals or bisexuals, who are most at risk of being exposed to Monkeypox.
On July 7, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that it had recorded more than 6,000 confirmed cases of Monkeypox worldwide, including three deaths, since the start of the year.
Monkeypox is a rare virus similar to human smallpox, which was first detected in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 1970s.
