Jyotsna sang, Deepti danced; ‘Maika’ like a grandmother’s story!

Jyotsna decided to cast her close friend and dancer Deepti as the female lead when she came up with the idea of doing a dance-music video for Vishu. Deepti didn’t waver even as Vishu changed its boundaries and grew into a video that can be enjoyed at any time. Joe and Dee are happy that the dream that they had nurtured for four-five months has come true in the form of ‘Maika’. The peak of satisfaction reached the peak of happiness when the video crossed one lakh views in a day and now reached three lakhs! Singer Jyotsna Radhakrishnan and Deepti Vidhu Prathap are thrilled that their latest original music video album ‘Maika’ and the combination of the song and video have become a hit.

‘This is my favorite song out of ten songs from the album ‘Krishna The Eternal’ which I did ten years ago. YouTube was not so popular then. So not many people got a chance to listen to those songs. I wish more people had heard those songs. That is how Vishu decided to release this song on the subject of Sri Krishna. A simple dance music video was in mind.

Grandmother Kalyani was a well-known devotee of Krishna in my family. When talking regarding Ammoomma and Bhakti, I felt that a story with some magical realism and mysticism can be made part of the video. With that, the video reached another level. With the addition of the old mansion, the pool and the relaxing dance performance, everything was more beautiful than expected. I did not expect to get such a good response.’ When Jyotsna’s usual laughter had a little more sweetness.

Four songs from the album ‘Krishna The Eternal’ were composed by Jyotsna and four songs by Girishkumar. The lyrics are traditional. In it, a song beginning with ‘Krishna…Sundara…’ composed by Girish Kumar has been released under the name Maika. The song takes you to a different world of fantasy and magical realism through sight and hearing.

‘Maika’ is now getting a reception unlike any of my previous original compositions. One lakh people watched the song in one day. Getting a song accepted is a big deal these days. Especially free presentations like this. Not a single negative comment yet. Everyone says that they feel something close, as if they have reached their heart, their mind is full… and so on. Happiness,’ says Jyotsna.

Maika is directed by Sumesh Lal. Choreography: Abbad Ram Mohan, Screenplay: Vinu Janardhanan, Art Direction: Subash Karun, Cinematography: Mahesh S. R, Anish Chandran, Editing: Albi Nataraj.
