Sera Song in fencing wins world championship gold medal in women’s épée for the first time in 20 years

Sera Song of the national fencing team won the world championship epee event for the first time in 20 years as a Korean female athlete.

Sera Song won the gold medal by defeating Germany’s Alexandra N’Dolo 11-10 in the women’s epee final at the Fencing World Championships held in Cairo, Egypt on the 19th.

With this, Sera Song became the second player to win a gold medal in the epee event at the World Championships in Korean fencing for the first time in 20 years and for the second time in history following Hyun-hee in 2002.

In all sports, Sera Song became the second Korean female fencer to win the individual event at the World Championships following Hyun Hee.

Sera Song, a member of the silver medal in the Korean women’s épée team event at the Tokyo Olympics last year, has been doing well in individual competitions on the international stage, including a gold medal at the Barcelona World Cup in February this year and a bronze medal at the Cairo International Grand Prix.

Meanwhile, in the men’s saber individual event, Oh Sang-wook, who tried to win the championship for the second time in a row following the previous 2019 competition, lost 15-14 to Iulian Theodosio of Romania in the quarterfinals and failed to advance to the quarterfinals.
