Two fences by the river were knocked down by the water, and some tourists were washed into the river.

Deng Lin said she and five other adults tried to rescue a child who was stuck in a fence. Most of the child’s body was washed outside the fence, surrounded by iron mesh, tape and sand, with only one foot in sight. The six adults worked together to rescue the child. She later heard from other witnesses that the child was so badly injured that he was admitted to the intensive care unit.

Deng Lin also saw that a mother who was in a safe area realized the danger and rushed to grab the child who was taken away by the current. The mother and son were still hugging when they were found in the river. A boy of regarding 9 years old crashed into a fence by the river and climbed up, but a piece of flesh was rubbed off his body and one eye was swollen.

Liu Cheng (pseudonym) and Deng Lin, who were present, jointly confirmed that the dead boy was found in the reservoir next to the inflatable swimming pool. Deng Lin said that when the deceased boy was found, he was wrapped in shredded tape in the swimming pool, and there was still sand buried around. The boy’s mother was also washed into the river at the time of the incident.

At the end of the rescue, a woman sat next to the body of the dead boy, her eyes dull. Deng Lin heard that she was the mother of the boys who were killed. “They walked past them one by one. She didn’t cry or make trouble, but it was like she lost her soul.”

A number of residents in Pengnan Town said that the boy who was killed has scored more than 600 points in the college entrance examination this year.

On July 17, “Jimu News” reported that the amusement center had been dismantled, and traces of damage to varying degrees might still be seen at the scene of the incident. The signboard of the “Ponnan Amusement Center” has been removed.
