Be careful if you cross the border at Hensies: a French police roadblock on the A2 is wreaking havoc on the holiday route

Those who are used to going to France by car taking the E19 and the border located at Hensies will have noticed that the traffic has been difficult for several months. In the Belgium-France direction, a filter barrier has been installed, forcing motorists to exit at Vicq, allowing the national police to carry out security checks. Controls which are actually very rare (and whose exact purpose we do not know, moreover), but this deviation through the small town of Vicq to take the motorway a few kilometers further on can waste a lot of time and cause slowdowns even before the French border.

Enough to sow a great mess, especially on busy days. And it is not the complaints of local political representatives that seem to change anything in the situation.

What to do if this section which then crosses Valenciennes is on your way? There are two options depending. The first is only a slight detour and will take you on the road to Lille via Tournai via the E42, to then join the A2 below Valenciennes. The other option is to take the E420 motorway which then heads towards Reims. You have been warned.
