The adjustment would take effect in 2023. Something similar happened last year – i.e. an examination with subsequent valorisation. As of January 1, 2022, the prices for the water supply, the sewer fee and the tariffs for waste disposal were increased. According to the city, a three-person household has had to pay 2.45 euros more per month for the corresponding services since then.
increase as a fight once morest inflation
Theoretically, Vienna might also suspend valorisation. However, Mayor Ludwig already announced at the weekend that this is unlikely to happen. The adjustment is a consequence of price increases or inflation. The city hall emphasizes that this must be combated. The adjustment of the fees serves to ensure municipal services and the modernization of services of general interest, it is said.
Criticism of the opposition with reference to the federal government
The opposition reacted to the announcement with criticism – and with a reference to the demands of the federal SPÖ for price reductions. Ludwig himself reiterated his desire for a joint approach by the federal and state governments in matters of anti-inflation measures. He demands a price summit. “There is absolutely no place for party-political bickering in such a tense situation.” Federal level, state level, all parties represented in parliament, social partners or representatives of the European Union should attend this summit, he said.
Ludwig – who is currently chairman of the state governors’ conference – also sees support from ÖVP-led countries in this regard. He rejects a cap on energy prices only in Vienna, as he emphasizes. Going it alone by individual cities or municipalities is not the best way. Vienna has also already taken measures to counteract the burden, he assured.
