Although the Game Boy Camera is a product of 20 years ago (released in February 1998 and discontinued at the end of 2002), there have been supporters in foreign countries to continuously improve and “enhance” its performance. One of the fans named Christopher Graves is even more powerful. He completely rebuilt the Game Boy Pocket into a Leica-flavored “interchangeable mirrorless” camera and named it Game Boy Camera M, which is quite a tribute to Leica. smell.

The Game Boy Camera M can be thought of as a completely remodeled Game Boy Pocket. Not only is it replaced with a mirrorless camera-like casing, but it also has a shutter button and a faux leather finish to give it a more stylish look. Like the original Game Boy Pocket, the Game Boy Camera M still connects to the Game Boy Camera via a dedicated slot. In addition, Graves has also designed a mod with CS/C mounts that can be attached to any CS or C mount lens, for example he is currently using a manual focus 5-50mm zoom lens. It is worth mentioning that the Game Boy Camera M still retains the original Lo-Fi flavor, and can only take 300,000-pixel photos with four levels of grayscale.

Graves brought his designs to life by teaching himself 3D modeling and printed circuit board (PCB) design, while constantly learning from fellow Game Boy Camera modders. He said the ability to make the Game Boy Camera M more powerful, such as by fitting it with a giant Canon zoom lens, would attract more curious eyes. However, he wasn’t interested in it, and was only interested in improving the Game Boy Camera M’s shooting capabilities. He said: “I’m actually not very satisfied with the current prototype, but what surprised me is that many people seem to want one. In this case, I will make sure that it has a certain quality before handing it over to me. into the hands of others, and hopefully more people love Game Boy cameras as much as I do.”
