Six arrested for murder of son of former Honduran president

The senior official of the National Police also detailed that two firearms and 14 cell phones were seized.

The Honduran National Police captured six suspects of murdering Said Lobo Bonilla, son of former President Porfirio Lobo Sosa, and three other people.

The six suspects are alleged members of the MS gang, authorities said during a press conference held Saturday at the presidential house.

The suspects were captured in the last hours in the Honduran capital in relation to the multiple crime that occurred early Thursday morning, when the victims were leaving a nightclub, officials said at the conference, which was attended by the director general of the National Police, Héctor Gustavo Sánchez.

On Friday, the investigative agents in charge of the case managed to locate and seize one of the vehicles in which the hooded criminals were traveling with large-caliber weapons when committing the crimes, they added.

One of the victims was identified as Said Omar Lobo Bonilla, 23, son of former President Porfirio Lobo and former First Lady Rosa Elena Bonilla de Lobo, who is currently in prison for corruption.

Also killed in the attack were Luis Armando Zelaya Rivera — the nephew of the former head of the Honduran Armed Forces, Romeo Vásquez Velásquez — José Salomón Vásquez Chávez and Norlan Enrique Rodríguez — the latter driver and bodyguard of the Lobo Bonilla family.

“The National Police has made significant progress in clarifying the case that, unfortunately, has filled several Honduran families with mourning,” Sánchez began at the hearing. “As a result of the efforts and investigations, the identification and capture of six members of the criminal structure were achieved, including one who commonly presented himself as a Police officer.”

The senior official of the National Police also detailed that two firearms and 14 cell phones were seized.

After the crime was committed, a combined team from several state institutions began the investigations, according to Sánchez, in which there was a series of raids in which the double-cab pick-up truck that allegedly appears in the videos released regarding the multiple murder was found.

The vehicle had several bullet holes and during an inspection “vital evidence was extracted that allows us to advance in a technical and scientific way, making use of the ballistics, dactyloscopy, forensic video and computer forensics laboratories to continue identifying the participants in the crime. fact”, according to the director general of the National Police.

Regarding the motive for the crime, the authorities limited themselves to saying that the detainees belong to the MS gang criminal structure, that they are being interrogated and that more captures are not ruled out in the next few hours, given that at least 11 people participated in the crime.

The assailants killed the four young people early Thursday morning when they were leaving a nightclub. The armed group, dressed as agents of the Anti-Gang Police, lowered the young people from vehicles, placed them once morest a wall and shot them, then fled the scene.

The videos of the events were released on social networks, causing a tremendous commotion in Honduran society.
