A kitten was saved from heat suffocation Tuesday in Broward County following being trapped in a situation she would not have gotten out of on a day when temperatures reached brutally high intensity.

According to a tweet from the Miramar Police Department (MPD), troopers responded to a call following a passerby saw “something” stuck in a fence in Perry Park at approximately 6 p.m.

The photos that accompany the publication give an idea of the great danger in which the little animal was involved. At first glance, the little feline was so entangled in the wires that it was not clear what kind of animal it was.

“It was very bad, it was barely moving,” said Tania Rues, a spokeswoman for the MPD, who initially said it was male. “The day was very hot and we don’t know how long he had been there.”

At present, everything seems fine. After she cut through the fence and the cat was freed, officers took her to the police station to give her food and water. She was named Guadalupe.

After the poor creature showed no sign of recovering, they took her to the VCA Hollywood Veterinary Hospital. She is currently responding well to treatment for the injuries and dehydration she sustained, and is expected to surrender to the area Humane Society shortly.

The Police Department said it was glad to have had to respond to a non-crime matter, Rues said, joking that it’s almost always firefighters who get the calls to rescue an animal. The Twitter post included tags such as #CopsRescueCatsToo, #NotTheFireDepartmentThisTimey #ServingOurCommunity.
