Huawei manages to refine its MateBook D16 to bring it upmarket compared to the 2021 model, this is what we must remember from this test and this 2022 version. Faced with its predecessor, the device is progressing on the question of display, taking advantage this year of a 16:10 panel (a format much more pleasant to use). It also improves performance by adopting Intel’s latest Alder Lake “H” mobile processors. Huawei is also adopting a newer chassis for its new D16, although that means partially recycling the design of its MateBook 16, which launched earlier this year. But no matter, the fundamentals are there.
Too bad, however, that Huawei did not take advantage of the switch to new Intel processors to improve the capacity of its battery. The latter will never really be able to offer us sufficient autonomy to last a whole day of work… without having to use the charger. It’s sad, because we almost passed that milestone with last year’s model. It’s also a shame that this new D16 ultimately only exploits part of the potential of its Core i7 of 12e generation. This leads us to recommend the basic model, which is less expensive and probably more autonomous thanks to a slightly more energy-efficient Core i5.
Incidentally, Huawei also misses the trackpad and the webcam. Two defects that we deplore, however, on a majority of Windows laptops offered in the same price range.
