The Beckham family has been the target of harassment for 5 years. A woman, named Sharon Bell, regularly sends letters to David Beckham. She even went so far as to go to the school of little Harper Beckham, 11, to try to kidnap her.
Victoria Beckham says she fears for the safety of her 11-year-old daughter Harper following a stranger showed up at her school to try to kidnap her. “I’m Harper’s mom, I’m here to get her back”, said this person once in the school. The unknown in question? A 58-year-old woman named Sharon Bell, according to The Mirror.
Since this incident, Victoria Beckham is worried. The former Spice Girl star, now 48, is afraid to leave her house. “She’s now afraid to go out. It’s made it difficult for her. She’s worried, especially when Harper goes on a school trip.”said prosecutor Arizuna Asante, relayed by The Mirror.
In a statement read out to Westminster Magistrates Court yesterday, the mum-of-4 added: “I have tried to keep it very quiet as I am very concerned regarding the effect this may have on Harper. I have tried to protect her and I am concerned for her safety.”
The court heard that Sharon Bell was staring at former English football champion David Beckham, 47. She has been sending him letters for years telling him that she will stop by his house to see him. She also sent him: “I love you and I have loved you since we were children”.
The 47-year-old footballer said he had never met this person and expressed concern regarding his behavior. “I felt like the language in the letters was escalating and becoming more emotional and threatening towards me and my family and that worried me. The letters were getting more and more threatening and obviously the woman knew where I lived. I was worried regarding what she was going to do next.”he confided.
Also according to The Mirror, Sharon Bell, 58, is accused of harassment but cannot be prosecuted criminally due to mental illness. District Judge Michael Snow imposed an indefinite harassment protection order, barring her from contacting the Beckhams or their four children for the rest of their lives.
