Yu Darvish struck out nine in seven innings and the San Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3 on Friday.
Austin Nola hit a two-run double to help the Padres win for just the second time in seven games.
Ketel Marte had three hits and scored twice for the Diamondbacks, including a solo homer off Darvish (8-4) in the first inning.
San Diego responded with three runs off Madison Bumgarner (5-9) in the second. Nola drove in two with a double down the left field line and scored from second on Esteury Ruiz’s single.
Darvish allowed five hits and walked two. Taylor Rogers retired all three he faced in the ninth for his 25th save, second-best in the majors.
For the Padres, Jurickson Profar from Curaçao 2-0. Dominicans Nomar Mazara 3-1 and Ruiz 3-1, one RBI.
For the Diamondbacks, the Dominicans Marte 4-3, two runs scored and one RBI; Gerardo Perdomo 3-0 and Sergio Alcántara 3-0. The Venezuelan David Peralta 4-1.
