Financial problems forced a Georgia couple to move out of their 2,000-square-foot home to live in an 860-square-foot Home Depot shed.
With the onset of the pandemic in March 2020, Nick Lucido and his wife, Meghan, they bought an 8.46-acre piece of land for $40,000.
“We saw a two-story shed in the Home Depot parking lot and said: ‘I think we might make it work’“, they told the New York Post.
It took a while to turn the shed into a homeand in the meantime they lived in a caravan until they were able to move.
big savings
The decision to move house made them debt-free, paying $82,000 in nine monthsthey revealed on Instagram.
The video where Nick shows the shed house has gone viral on TikTokreaching nearly 2 million views.
“If you go to any Home Depot, at least in the southeast, you walk into their parking lot, you’ll usually see sheds…this here is actually a little house, Tuff shed from Home Depot, two stories, 860 square feet, one bedroom, full kitchen, full living room, the porch, then of course we have a chicken coop back there…a deck with our above ground pool and a trampoline for the little one, of course” , they detail.
Mentioning that it only had one bedroom, many questioned where the couple’s son slept, so Nick showed the cradle in which the youngest of the family rests.
In the room there is a laundry center inside a closet, it also has a walking closet, sink and shower.
After getting out of debt and saving some money, the family sold the shed for $312,000 last December.
“The ability to pay for everything, move into an RV and literally be debt free was the most liberating experience I think anyone can experience,” the man explained.
“And that’s when covid hit and the market started doing crazy things. Y that’s when a guy came and offered us more money than we might imagine”, added Nick, who was able to build a completely new place and now lives with his family in the house of his dreams
