Bayern Munich confirms agreement has been reached to transfer Lewandowski to Barcelona

Berlin (AFP) – Bayern Munich confirmed on Saturday that it had reached an agreement with Barcelona for the transfer of Polish striker Ruert Lewandowski to the Catalan club, without giving any details.

And the Bavarian club quoted in a tweet via its Twitter account its president, Herbert Hainer, as saying, “We have reached a verbal agreement with Barcelona. It is good that there is clarity for all parties.”

“Robert is a fantastic player and he won everything for us. We are incredibly grateful to him,” he added.

For his part, the CEO of the German champion, Oliver Kahn, confirmed in an interview with the newspaper “Bild” that the agreement is still verbal so far, and that “the written contract has not been finalized yet.”

Several German and Spanish media had previously indicated an agreement reached by the two clubs, according to which Lewandowski would move to Barcelona in a deal estimated at 45 million euros plus 5 million in bonuses.

The two clubs reached this agreement on Friday-Saturday night, according to the newspapers “Bild” and “Kicker” and “Sky Germany”, bringing the rams between the scorer and his club to a happy conclusion for the Polish who refused to complete his career with the Bavarian club following entering his historical record.

For its part, the Catalan newspaper Sport wrote on its front page on Saturday that the 33-year-old “intends to arrive today (Saturday) in Barcelona to complete his medical examination and sign for four years.”

“The Pole will not be present at the Bavarian team’s presentation today (Saturday),” Mundo Deportivo, Catalan, said, provided that he is with Barcelona on his American summer tour (July 18-31).

Bayern offered him only a one-year extension to his contract, which ends in the summer of 2023, according to German local newspapers.

The Polish international was also not satisfied with the salary proposed to him and entered into a conflict with his coach Julian Nagelsmann over his technical options, according to some sources.

Lewandowski’s return to Bayern training was blurry, if he seemed indifferent and without enthusiasm and arrived late more than once, before his body language improved Thursday.

He had announced at the end of May that his “story” with the German club “is nearing its end”. The Catalan club showed great interest in the inclusion of the top scorer and winner of the FIFA Player of the Year award twice.

Lewandowski has defended the Bavarian club since 2014, scoring 344 goals. He broke a large number of records as a top scorer, the most prominent of which was the number of goals in one season in the German League.

With 41 goals in the 2021 season, he broke a record that goes back many years: 40 goals for defender Gerd Muller in the 1971-72 season.

In the Champions League, he ranks third in the list of historical scorers for the competition, where he shares with Real Madrid’s French international striker Karim Benzema (86 goals each), behind the leaders Cristiano Ronaldo (140 goals) and Argentine Lionel Messi (125 goals).
