Port traffic: the ANP achieves a record

The introduction of new port operators, particularly in the field of shipyards and in the exercise of related port activities, contributed massively to enhancing port traffic during the year 2021, whose trade volume reached 91 million tons. .

The National Ports Agency (ANP) draws up a positive assessment of the 2021 financial year. With port traffic reaching 91 million tonnes, i.e. a strengthening of 3.8%, the agency recorded a record number of transactions generating revenue of around 2 billion dirhams, i.e. an increase of 6.5% compared to 2020. In the same vein, cash flow stood at 561, 6 million dirhams, hence a 12.8% increase in value added, which stood at 1.3 billion dirhams, i.e. +1% compared to 2020.

The activity report presented during the ANP board of directors, held recently at the headquarters of the Ministry of Equipment and Water, reports on the various changes that have characterized trade. It appears that a net decline was noted in cereal imports to stand at 24.1%. Ditto for livestock feed, which fell by around 21.8% compared to the previous year.

Reductions mainly due to the strong agricultural production of the 2020-2021 season, according to Nadia Laraqi, director general of the ANP. Traffic linked to the phosphate business also recorded a decline of 4.2%. On the other hand, the flow of hydrocarbons did well with a recovery of 8.5%.

Record container traffic
During 2021, container traffic has never been better. Indeed, the report indicates that a record level of 1.3 million twenty-foot equivalent containers in contrasting variations has been reached. However, Moroccan ports have continued to serve as a platform for the country’s international trade by providing suitable circumstances for the transport of various goods. Apart from the achievements recorded during the 2021 financial year, the agency’s top management highlighted the progress made in terms of infrastructure and the projects started.

The ANP has thus put in place the necessary measures to make up for the delay caused by the health crisis. It was then that it was able to complete the various projects planned under the Wessal Casablanca-Port program. In terms of sectoral regulation, the past year was marked by the introduction of new port operators, particularly in the field of shipyards and in the exercise of related port activities.

In the same perspective, the ANP provided support to port operators for the realization of their investment projects and the continued animation of the port ecosystem around community issues. A dynamic that further stimulated port activity. During this meeting, the council discussed the distinguished capabilities of the national port sector to withstand the ramifications of supply chain problems. Emphasis was also placed on the efforts made to implement and strengthen the work program aimed at developing and modernizing the port offer.
