The Carl Zeiss Planetarium has new LEDs

The conversion is carried out by the manufacturer in Jena and brings many advantages: Since LEDs do not consume any electricity in standby – in contrast to old lamps – up to 40 percent energy is saved. In addition, LEDs have a significantly longer service life and are therefore more resource-efficient. In the past it was always very troublesome and expensive if one of the lamps in the projector exploded. In this case, the technicians had to remove many small pieces of glass, sometimes damaging the electronics in the projector. This will no longer be necessary with LEDs as they cannot explode. Another big advantage is that the projection with LEDs on the planetarium dome is more colour-intensive, brighter and quieter, because LEDs require less cooling than metal halide lamps. The projectors are the heart of the planetarium and the technical system for the dome-filling video projection.
