Spectacular catch off the coast of South America. Here the fishermen heave a 5 meter long mammoth fish onto land, even needing the help of a crane. The mega fish is caught by the fishermen off the Chilean coast. Flat, thin, silvery, and 5m long! Not a sea monster and not an alien fish either – but an oarfish. Oarfish are known and researched, live deep in the sea, can even be more than twice as long with up to 11 meters. Live oarfish are very rarely seen. They only return to the surface from the depths of the ocean when they are breeding or sick. The catch caused a stir on social media and was admired millions of times. The local authorities are now clarifying why the rare catch was successful and the 5m long, silvery flat oarfish was caught by the fishermen.
