Thodupuzha/Kozhikode ∙ Malayalam legend MT Vasudevan Nair turns 90 today on the location of his own film. The 89th birthday celebration will be held at the location near Thodupuzha, where the movie ‘Olamum Thiramvum’ directed by PN Menon and directed by MT in 1970 will be recreated following half a century. MT will reach the set in Kudayathur around 11 am and will have a birthday party with the shooting team in the followingnoon.
MT’s Navathi year will be a celebration for Malayalam cinema. 10 of his stories are being made into a movie together. All ten screenplays are of MT. The release of this movie collection is on the OTT platform.
Priyadarshan is directing the eighth film in the series, Newy Olam and Thiram. If Madhu was the hero in the first, now Mohanlal is the hero. The shots taken by cinematographer Mankata Ravivarma on the banks of Olamum on the overflowing Kallaipuzha half a century ago are still a part of the history of Malayalam cinema. That film took the Malayalam cinema that was suffocating on the studio floors to the nature of Kerala. That is how our cinema started smiling at the soil and people of Kerala. Olam and Thiram won 4 state awards that day. Priyadarshan is also directing the film ‘Shilalikhitam’ starring Biju Menon.

Nair, ‘Vilpana’ stars Asifali and Madhubala in the lead roles. Siddique is the hero in Santhosh Sivan’s film ‘Abhayam Perki Tharu’. Parvati and Narayan in Shyama Prasad’s ‘Kazha’. Jayaraj’s ‘Swargam Oppunna Samayam’ stars Nedumudi Venu, Indrans and Surabhi in lead roles; Indrajith and Aparna Balamurali in Ratheesh Ampat’s ‘Kadalkatti’.
Having written 60 screenplays and directed 7 films, MT’s Navati year will be a visual feast for the audience. MT Malayalam is giving an unusual birthday celebration, a unique spectacle!
