French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday urged energy conservation.
In a television interview on the occasion of the French National Day, which was given to him by the French television channel TF-1, following attending the traditional military parade on the Champs-Elysees on the occasion of the French National Day, Macron said, “Winter and early autumn will undoubtedly be very harsh.”
He added that France is preparing a plan to rationalize energy consumption.
“We must prepare to dispense with Russian gas,” the French president said.
France and other European countries are highly dependent on Russian gas. Those countries fear that gas pumping will stop before the arrival of winter, when Europeans need gas and electricity for heating.
Russia had said, earlier today, Thursday, that the restart of the important pipeline “Nord Stream 1”, following the expiration of its 10-day maintenance period, which is supposed to end next week, depends on the measures taken by Western countries.
“For the future operation of the gas pipeline, a lot will depend on our partners, in terms of gas demand or in terms of preventing the negative effects of illegal restrictive measures,” ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova added, according to the Russian “Interfax” news agency.
Zakharova specifically referred to a pipeline turbine sent for maintenance in Canada.
