Serbia has found a replacement for Russian gas

Serbia wants to switch from Russian gas to gas from Azerbaijan

In September 2023, Serbia will be able to purchase up to 40% of the required amount of gas from other countries. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Mining and Energy of the Republic Zorana Mikhailovich, TASS reports.

“Next year we will be able to receive at least 30-40% of gas from other suppliers, and we are already negotiating with the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan to lease capacities for the next year,” Mikhailovich said. The Serbian Deputy Prime Minister also claims that by September 2023, the construction of the Nish-Dimitrovgrad gas pipeline will be completed, through which gas can be supplied to Serbia from Azerbaijan and an LNG terminal in Greece.

Russia launched a special operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine on February 24. Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that Stopping gas supplies from Russia will be a “real hell” for the whole of Europe. To resolve this issue, the Serbian leader intended to increase the amount of gas in Hungary’s storage facilities.
