The authorities have detected ethylene oxide in Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream from the food manufacturer General Mills. They recommend not consuming the affected products. They will be withdrawn from sale and recalled.
According to a statement by the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (BLV) on Wednesday, a health hazard cannot be ruled out. Ethylene oxide is a crop protection, disinfectant and fumigant and is used to combat bacteria and fungi. It is toxic and considered carcinogenic.
A total of four products with a best-before date before May 21, 2023 are affected by the recall. They are sold in many major distributors and department store chains such as Coop, Manor, Migros, Aldi, Globus and Otto’s as well as in various restaurants and catering companies. (SDA)
