Champions League: Jürgen Klopp’s family was in danger at the final

Klopp reveals shocking details

“My family was exposed to fierce fighting”

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp reveals his family was involved in the riots surrounding the Champions League final. His wife was unable to attend a celebration following the game.

At the last Champions League final in Paris in May, it wasn’t just the sport that made the headlines. There was great chaos around the stadium. Fans gained access to the stadium without a valid ticket. A number of injuries were the result of this riot – even tear gas had to be used.

For a month and a half, Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp (55), who lost 1-0 to Real Madrid that evening, revealed that his family were also affected by the riots and, among other things, had difficulties getting into the stadium. “I only met a few who were lucky. Everyone else, including my family, was exposed to heavy fighting outside,” the German coach reveals to the club’s own broadcaster.
