The 75-year-old victim was found suffocated to death. The suspect, 99 years old at the time of the events, was quickly identified and put under arrest warrant.
The council chamber had already requested his transfer from Bruges prison last October because of his inaccessibility to criminal punishment, but no suitable place was available. The centenarian, suffering from dementia, will now be treated in a medical environment, “where he should be”, commented his lawyer.
