Greek yogurt is deliciously creamy, but it also has a higher proportion of saturated fat, around 50 percent. These have long been held responsible for cardiovascular disease, as they were suspected of raising cholesterol levels and clogging blood vessels. Even if studies have repeatedly disproved this claim, there is still agreement today that saturated fatty acids should only be consumed in moderation and that healthier fats, i.e. unsaturated fatty acids, should be used instead. However, researchers at Tufts University found in 2013 that eating yogurt can significantly lower blood pressure. Just two cups of 200 grams per week are said to reduce the risk of high blood pressure by 31 percent.
