book that captures the spirit of the 80s metal fanzine

And there is a fanzine that defines the metal spirit of the 80s is “Mutilador”. And to the liking of those who grew up reading it or for those who didn’t, this is a great opportunity to feel the most rudimentary elements with which it was made: the authentic paper intervened with a typewriter, markers, scissors, pritt adhesive pencil and, that yes, a lot of creativity. Announcements of gigs, letters, boxes and more boxes, memories…

And it is that going in search of the gangs involved sending letters to many parts of the world and receive the answers, as an art of becoming an accomplice of the spokespersons of the underground metal and others, something that José Luis Peláez Abrego and Juan Carlos Ruiz understood and applied their knowledge, smell and desire to take the race from hand to hand, in places like El Chopo and las tocadas, to the exponents of the underground that were reproduced en masse. Innovative groups like Kreator, Coroner, Accused, Sodom, Prong, Morbid Angel or Napalm Death paraded through its pages, and over the years they became sacred monsters of metal.

And Mexico was not far behind, with exponents such as Transmetal, Atoxxxico, Anarchus, and from Monterrey there is Necrophiliac, Toxodeth or Mortuary, with interviews in which they give their points of view on a nascent and complicated scene. Mortuary highlights an interview, a review of his demo and the gig with Tormentor and Sepultura in Tlalnepantla, on 12-17-89. Epic concert and remembered by legendary headbangers.

The book contains eight issues of “Mutilator” from December 1, 1987 to April 8, 1989, more interviews with the protagonists of the fanzine and photos. A great compilation that also includes four discs with a selection of national and international bands, in reality a real gem of a collection made by Dark Recollections Productions.
