On the 10th, the Democratic Progressive Party’s election meeting passed the call for Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shizhong to run for mayor of Taipei, and it also raised a wave of criticism of “epidemic prevention and running away”. A latest poll shows that 50% of netizens believe that they should not resign to run for election; in addition, Chen Shizhong’s support is only 28%, far behind Jiang Wanan’s 53.5%. Huang Shanshan, deputy mayor of Taipei, who will represent the People’s Party in the election, is at the bottom of the three-legged governor, with only 18.4%.
According to the “Apple News” poll, “Will Chen Shizhong resign as commander to run for election?” As of 9:00 p.m. on the 11th, there were 46,711 valid samples, of which 26,025 answered “no”, accounting for 55.7%; the answer “yes” was yes 20,686 people, accounting for 44.2%. Chen Shizhong changed from an epidemic prevention commander to a candidate for the Taipei mayoral election of the Democratic Progressive Party. The Green Camp believes that he has led the epidemic prevention for 904 days, and he will become the strongest and best mayor by the end of the year. Opponents criticize Chen Shizhong’s epidemic prevention policy for dragging down the economy , the mayoral candidate was reduced to running ministers and commanders, leaving 4.1 million infected and 7,700 dead. Chen Shizhong declared that his life motto was “Conscientiousness”, and he believed that he “did his best and had a clear conscience” during the epidemic prevention period.
In response to Chen Shizhong’s achievements in epidemic prevention, Shi Wenyi, the former deputy director of the CDC, commented that compared with other countries in the world, Taiwan has no problem getting more than 80 points in epidemic prevention. However, in the past two years, foreign epidemics have started earlier, and Taiwan has experience to follow. There is no need to cross the river by feeling the stones, but the Central Epidemic Command Center holds daily press conferences, but rarely explains the general direction and strategy. Su Yiren, the former director of the CDC, pointed out that the command center failed to prepare sufficient vaccines, rapid screening and drugs as soon as possible.
