With a record win, England’s women’s national football team became the first team to reach the quarter-finals at the home European Championship.

through the 8-0 victory over Norway in Brighton on Monday evening, the English team booked their place in the last eight early. The hosts are already certain as the winners of Group A and might possibly become opponents of the German soccer women in the quarterfinals.
In front of 28,500 spectators at the sold-out Brighton & Hove Community Stadium, Beth Mead (34’/38’/81′) scored with a hat-trick, Ellen White (29’/41′), Georgia Stanway (12’/penalty), Lauren Hemp ( 15.) and substitute Alessia Russo (66.) scored for the vastly superior English women. In 2017, the English women had won the title fights in the Netherlands once morest Scotland 6-0 – it had been the highest victory at a European Championship to date.

Austria’s national women’s soccer team had previously managed to win the finals of the European Championship for the first time and kept the quarter-final chance. The Austrians scored 2-0 (1-0) once morest Northern Ireland in Southampton. The decision will be made on Friday in the game once morest the Norwegians. England meet Northern Ireland, who following two defeats have no chance of progressing.
