Peruvians have been confident that the contagion of the COVID-19 It will be faster and will not require hospitalization, assured this morning the dean of the Medical College of Peru, Raúl Urquizo.
In conversations with RPP Newsthe doctor talked regarding the possibility of prohibiting parties and events to avoid new infections of COVID–19 in the country.
“If it is a party in a large, ventilated environment, the use of the mask is not so necessary. The problem is when we have a closed environment, there is no circulation and a person can have the virus and infect the rest,” said the specialist.
Of course, he said that there will be no greater restrictions than the current ones, prioritizing self-care, since it would be “a setback and the population will not abide by it.” However, for this to work, he declares, there must be a higher vaccination quota.
“The politicians have already forgotten that we are still in crisis, even more so we are in the fourth wave and the great concern of the Medical College is that there is a false sense of security: they are not vaccinating,” he says.
“The only certainty of not getting infected is that they have received the third or fourth dose of the vaccine according to the schedule of the Ministry of Health, but unfortunately the coverage is very poor: the fourth dose does not even reach 20% and the third dose does not even reach to 70%”, he also observed.
“We have demanded that they extend the vaccination schedules from 7:00 in the morning until 10:00 at night, that there be more vaccination centers, but unfortunately the population is not responding because the authorities of the Executive They give a double message.
Cases in Cusco on the rise
Dr. Urquizo also suggests that since the last Inti Raymi festival in Cusco, cases have skyrocketed in the region.
“We have a following in Cusco, especially for this the Inti Raymi party. Before it was 8 or 10 cases up to 50 every day and following the party there were no less than 100 up to 220 cases per day. There are even deceased, ”he points out. “So, that worries us that, just like in Cusco, the same thing is also happening in many regions because the population is not getting the third or fourth dose and the children are not getting the vaccine once morest the flu. Before the coronavirus, influenza was what killed the most.”
Given this, the doctor also promotes the opening of more vaccination centers, but not exclusively for the COVID-19but also for influenza and pneumonia.
“The vast majority who attend hospitalization are people who have not received a vaccine or only have one dose. There is a large percentage of people over 60 years of age in the hospital.”
