– Austria dominate Northern Ireland and keep their chances
Winners 2-0 of their second match of the Euro in England, the Austrians can still hope to see the quarters.
Austria kept its chances of qualifying for the quarter-finals of Euro 2022 by logically dominating Northern Ireland (2-0) in Southampton (England) on Monday, during the second day. In a strong group A, the Austrians can still hope for a qualification, pending the clash between the English host country and Norway at 9 p.m.
For Northern Ireland, however, a draw between the two nations would mean elimination.
First success
Little worried throughout the meeting, the Austrians drew their first success of this Euro thanks to two goals from Katharina Schiechtl (19th) and Katharina Naschenweng (88th).
On a free kick taken by Montpellier player Sarah Puntigam and blocked by the opposing wall, Schiechtl opened the scoring. It was then necessary to wait until the end of regulation time to see Naschenweng, who entered a quarter of an hour earlier, make the break.
The semi-finalists at Euro 2017 lost on Wednesday, beaten 1-0 by the English at the start of the Euro.
