It is reported that U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, who will be visiting Korea on the 19th, will persuade her to join the price cap system for Russian crude oil on the occasion of her visit to Asia.

Currently, some countries, such as China and India, are refusing to cooperate with the price cap system, but there is an observation that the number of participating countries will increase if a reasonable plan is prepared.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is visiting Asia for the first time since taking office in January last year.

Minister Yellen will hold talks in Japan on the 12th and 13th, and attend the G20 Finance Ministers Meeting of 20 major countries in Bali, Indonesia on the 15th and 16th.

They will visit Korea on the 19th and 20th.

According to the New York Times, Secretary Yellen is expected to wage an all-out war to expand the price cap on Russian crude oil during this Asian tour.

Seven major countries, the G7, have already agreed to introduce price caps on Russian crude oil.

A specific upper limit has not been set yet, but it is said to be considered between $40 and $60 per barrel, and between 52,000 and 78,000 won in Korean money.

The New York Times analyzed that the U.S. government is trying to relieve pressure on rising oil prices by tightening financing lines to Russia through price caps at a time when the European Union and the EU have announced a ban on imports of Russian crude oil by the end of the year as part of sanctions once morest the invasion of Ukraine. .

U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo said: “The price ceiling for Russian crude will not only reduce the risk of a global downturn, it will also lower the price of a vital resource in the economy.”

The New York Times predicted that some countries, such as China and India, are refusing to cooperate in the implementation of the price ceiling system, but if a reasonable ceiling proposal is prepared, the number of participating countries will increase.
